A LITTLE TIP
Sometimes dance floors can be sticky from the weekend activities - wear hard leather soled shoes.
We like to put some vinyl ( from a cheap bunnings floor tile) on the ball of foot area for dancing on sticky floors. Just on one pair of shoes and take them with you always.
Great for carpet dancing too.
Keep an eye on the gig guide for blues bands that are great for swing dancing. Many of our local bands play songs suitable for 6 & 8 count rhythms..anything chacha'ish works.

This clip is from the Swing Patrol Paddington dance group at the annual performance ball. All ages, having fun. Swing Patrol Sydney have really good, intense 'learn to dance in a day' workshops, regular dance events, and bring many international teachers to Sydney Swing workshops.

SWING OUT MUD MAP
This is my mud map that helped me to learn both the lead and the follow. The trick is, I found, to turn the foot on "3". Follows, use your hips to get that movement going. And remember a good one hour private lesson with a knowledgeable and competent teacher will do alot for your styling.
If you watch the feet of 'good' dancers, they all do this. Hope this mud map helps. Keep in mind I just dance for fun, so this mud map is not meant to be the 'be all and end all' for instruction. It will be updated if needs be. Share it freely if you find it useful.

THE DARLING BUDS OF MAY DANCE. November 2011
WONDERFUL does not begin to describe the afternoon and early evening swing dance close to 200 people enjoyed to the very limit of their capacity. Every song from the band was fabulous, people danced all night and then later on at Wests Leagues Club, where we all had coffee, choccie goodies, the guys and girls from DBM munched through hamburgers and then with the grand piano being vacant, Julian took to the keys, Daniel got his saxaphone from the car, and we stayed until the early hours listening to slow smooth swing..drinking champagne..a quick tour of Newcastle on Monday morning in a couple of vintage cars and then of to the airport, where we said 'adieu' until next time..
